My long feature on artist Santiago Sierra, whose pieces sparked controversy for the social truths they uncomfortably revealed. Even for him it was not easy. After paying a group of prostitutes to allow themselves to have a horizontal line tattooed across their backs, his breakthrough piece, he retreated. "I knew intellectually that I had to continue with this concept,” he explains. “But I spent a year afterward not doing anything more involving people.”
